Bank holiday weekends in 2027
GOV.UK lists these 2027 bank holidays. England and Wales: Monday 3 May, Monday 31 May and Monday 30 August. Scotland: Monday 3 May, Monday 31 May and Monday 2 August. Northern Ireland also has Monday 12 July and Monday 30 August.
The Sunday before each of these Mondays is the natural slot for a late-finishing day party.
Temporary Event Notice limits
In England and Wales, a TEN covers fewer than 500 people at any one time, staff included, for up to 168 hours. Give it at least 10 clear working days ahead, and remember the bank holiday itself doesn't count as a working day.
A single premises can have up to 15 TENs a year covering no more than 21 days, so popular outdoor sites can run out over a busy summer. Ask the landowner early.
Safety planning
The Health and Safety Executive's guidance on running an event safely covers planning, managing and reviewing the event. For larger events, the council's Safety Advisory Group can bring the authorities together to review your plans.
Cover the basics in writing: site layout, toilets, water, first aid, stewarding, lighting for the exit and how you'll communicate with the crowd.
Weather and refunds
Buyers of tickets for a leisure event on a specific date generally don't have a 14-day cancellation right, so your published policy decides what happens. Say before sale whether the event goes ahead in rain, what happens if you cancel for severe weather, and whether the booking fee is refunded.
Ticketing that suits outdoor sites
Signal can be patchy in fields and parks, so tell buyers to keep their QR ticket on their phone before they arrive. Tickean sends tickets by WhatsApp and email, several smartphones scan in parallel, and the live headcount helps you stay within the numbers in your licence.
